iBox VR Experience (IBOX, La boîte à insultes / Insult Box)

iBox VR Experience

  • 3Motion

An award-winning interactive 3D 360 video experience in which the viewer is placed in conversation with four increasingly agitated characters, each competing for attention. As the user focuses on one character, tension rises with the others, turning the piece into an emotionally charged and deliberately confrontational VR experience. Festival materials for NewImages described it as an interactive personal and emotional experience, and the project was presented under the title IBOX, La boîte à insultes / Insult Box.

  • Won the Prix de la création numérique francophone at NewImages 2018
  • Won Best VR Experience at the Stereopsia / Creative Arts Lumiere Awards

Challenge

Translate a confrontational character-driven film concept into a behaviour-driven 360 VR experience where the viewer's gaze and attention shift the emotional state of four cast members in real time, without breaking the cinematic feel of the piece.

Solution

Built a behaviour-driven VR video player that powered the interactive experience, including a mob-style attention and reaction system that escalated the four characters' responses based on viewer focus. Supported multi-platform deployment and contributed graphic design and interface presentation.

Outcome

Premiered as an award-winning interactive VR film, taking home Prix de la création numérique francophone at NewImages 2018 and Best VR Experience at the Stereopsia / Creative Arts Lumiere Awards.
