IV Medication Dosing and Delivery is an XR learning application for nursing students to practice administering IV medication orders. Students interpret a doctor's order, perform dosage calculations, prepare medication in a virtual supply room, and administer it to a virtual patient in a simulated patient care room through a guided step-by-step process. Integrated into college-level nursing courses, the application supports hands-on training, assessment, and procedural confidence in a repeatable virtual setting.
- Supports Seneca's Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing program, which includes simulation-enhanced clinical education
- Extends repeatable nursing skills practice within a hybrid learning model
Challenge
Nursing students need repeatable, low-risk practice administering IV medication orders — interpreting a doctor's order, performing dosage calculations, preparing medication, and administering it to a patient — but real-world supervised practice opportunities are limited and high-stakes.
Solution
Built a guided XR application in Unreal Engine for Meta Quest and Windows PC where students interpret doctor's orders, calculate dosage, prepare medication in a virtual supply room, and administer it to a virtual patient through a step-by-step procedural workflow.
Outcome
Integrated into Seneca's Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing program, which includes simulation-enhanced clinical education. Extends repeatable nursing skills practice within a hybrid learning model.
