Oceans School VR Lab
- 2017
- Released
- The National Film Board of Canada

A virtual reality prototype that allowed students to explore the North Atlantic Ocean through interactive 360 video experiences. Users could navigate between immersive ocean environments, select informational hotspots within the videos, and learn more about marine topics in an engaging educational format. The project helped demonstrate how VR could be used to support experiential learning and contributed to the broader direction of the Ocean School education platform.
- Helped establish an early prototype direction for the Ocean School platform used by students across North America
Challenge
Show how VR could power experiential marine-science learning for school-age students using 360 video — and prototype an interaction framework reliable enough to set the direction for the broader Ocean School platform.
Solution
Designed and built the prototype framework as sole programmer and UI scripter: assembled the user interface and interactive environment, implemented hotspot-based interactions inside 360 video, and supported integration of educational content into an immersive VR format.
Outcome
Helped establish an early prototype direction for the Ocean School platform, which has since been used by students across North America.
