An XR training application supporting CFAA certification: students work with fire alarm control panels from four real panel families (Mircom, Simplex, Protectowire, Autocall) across nine labs, testing alarms, detectors and manual stations and troubleshooting faults step by step. Tasks run from multimeter readings to smoke detection, signal devices and emergency voice systems. Companion worksheets carry the labs into class or remote delivery, and the certification pathway it supports is recognized by industry partners.

Challenge
Translate a nine-lab CFAA curriculum and four real fire alarm panel families (Mircom, Simplex, Protectowire, Autocall) into a virtual environment that students could use in class or remotely while preserving the procedural rigour of physical lab delivery.
Solution
Built virtual lab environments with interactive control panels, tool-based workflows, and step-by-step fault troubleshooting in Unreal Engine for Meta Quest and Windows PC. Extended the core learning framework to support nine labs, scene logic, UI systems, and inspection modes, with companion worksheets bridging in-class and remote delivery.
Outcome
Deployed as a virtual companion to Seneca's physical Fire Alarm Technician program, supporting flexible in-class and remote delivery and aligning with the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification pathway recognised by industry partners.
